Overview: In this course it can get over a general overview of how to read multiple types of texts. This can range from boring textbooks to actual books you want to read in your free time. This module will help you learn how to take notes that can be retained for you to learn, not just for memorization on a test.
It is Important that while you are taking notes, you can actively listen to and engage with the material while you are writing. This helps to write the most important stuff, so you aren’t just writing everything the instructor says. One really helpful way to do this is to focus on the main themes or ideas from the lecture and writing them in your own words. This forces you to think about what the information actually means, while still getting the information available for review. Another thing that is important to keep pace with the instructor so you can listen to what they are saying while they are giving a lecture. You can do this by abbreviating text and skipping over details that aren’t as important to the subject.
Traffic light method. Look through your notes and highlight in red what you don’t know, yellow in what you kind of know, and green for what you know. You could also do a tutorial on how to use canvas.
